American Values
How have American values (like freedom, equality, or community) changed in your lifetime?
In my lifetime, I’ve seen American values become much more focused on equality, inclusion, and self-expression. Growing up during rapid technological change and social movements, my generation has pushed for acceptance of different identities, lifestyles, and viewpoints. Freedom now often means having the space to be yourself without judgment, while equality extends beyond laws to representation and opportunity. At the same time, community has shifted online—people connect through shared interests and causes more than neighborhoods. Overall, I think we’ve become more open-minded and aware, even if we’re still trying to balance individuality with a sense of belonging.
